History

It was 1906 when two teenagers decided to set out on their own. Charles Pressman and Manuel A. Pearl were working for an absentee boss in a small Philadelphia printing shop. They pooled their savings of $60, bought a foot-powered press, some assorted type and a few dollars worth of paper. Pearl Pressman Company was born.

Charles' son, Harold, joined the business as its first salesman in 1933 after studying printing management at Carnegie Tech. Manuel's son, Burton, returned home from World War II military service to work in the business. Today, generations of family members—from skilled production workers to sales and service employees—work side-by-side, carrying on the commitment to family that is a hallmark of PPLCG.

Other company hallmarks are innovation and technology. Originally, a letterpress operation, Pearl Pressman added offset in 1953 by merging with Liberty Printing and Lithograph Co. The 1960s brought typesetting and expanded bookmaking capabilities in-house. In the 1980s, PPLCG added prepress and a bindery under its roof, as well as the first MAC and six-color press.

Fast forward to 2005. That's when PPLCG introduced stochastic printing, digital printing with variable data and fulfillment services. Most recently, we acquired Nice Lines Direct Mail, adding direct mail and promotional products to our capabilities.
